The Sky Passage, Uppsala, 2021

Commission work
Tycho Hedéns väg, Uppsala
2021

The sky passage

A 42 meters in 160 cm ceramic tile work based on the principle of Persian seven colours art tiles.  And also, 42 meters in 50 cm metal/light sculpture acting as the tunnel's light fixture. There are 1656 pieces of 20 by 20 cm ceramic tiles.

The artistic concept of the tile is inspired by many factors such as cultural, anthropological and local aspects of the tunnel and the area. I have also considered the details of the school children and the reference group's drawings, and that's why you can identify some parts of the school children's drawings in abstract form in my design. That's actually where the name comes from.

The art design has been printed in the production phase using modern ceramic printing on high-quality Italian porcelain tiles. The high-resolution image transfer technology used in this project is not UV or sublime printing. Constellations, stars, moons and the light from the sky are the inspiring factors behind the artistic design of this part. The light sculpture provides lighting for the tunnel. Acts as wall-wash light on the tiles. And adds light effects to the plane wall opposite the tile work. The rays of lights shining through the geometric patterns in the light sculpture and the shadows give an extra dimension to the entire project.

The light sculpture is made of a 3 mm thick mirror-polished metal sheet. The technology used is laser cut.

"Rest in Natural Great Peace" Berg Gallery, Stockholm, 2021

Raha Rastifard's first solo exhibition at Berg Gallery presents a series of colorful works in 3D lens technology that challenge the viewer's gaze by creating displacements of the subject. Lenticular printing is a multi-step process commonly used to create an animated effect, a sense of three-dimensionality or to give depth to the image. For Rastifard, the method becomes a way of realizing the many layers that together make up her illusory pictorial worlds. As so often in Rastifard's practice, there is a kinship between the several thousand-year-old Persian traditions of abstract geometric patterns and the works in this exhibition.

Rastifard uses original works in the form of paintings, graphics and photographs to create her technologically advanced worlds of images, where these originals are intertwined into a whole. Like the traditional Persian geometric patterns, the motifs repeat, overlap and coincide with each other. Her work is characterized by precision and a deep interest in the various optical phenomena that characterize her abstract landscape. In this way, her focus is reminiscent of the scientist's; there is a fundamental interest in the many ways in which light is reflected, refracted and bent. At the same time, her process is equally emotional, philosophical and internal – introspection and a meditative approach serve as key words in the creative process.

"A Story Written with Water" Konstfrämjandet Bergslagen, Örebro, 2020

Exhibition at Konstfrämjandet Bergslagen, Örebro, Sweden, in 2020

In this project, I wrote a number of poetic texts in which the present, past and future intersect. The process resembles diaries, in which reality, dreams, and fantasies intertwine, which makes the work non-permanent. The works are handwritten in the Persian alphabet, and the texts are arranged in random patterns; Text as sculpture/sculpture as text.

Nahavand Project

Nahavand Project,2016
In collaboration with Sirous Namazi

Nahavand
Nahavand is a province in Iran and one of the oldest regions in the country, with amazing scenery, rich culture and ancient history. The project Nahavand is a collaboration between artists Raha Rastifard and Sirous Namazi. We both live and work in Stockholm but have our origins in Iran. The project came out of our daily discussions about this specific location and our former homeland, and out of our longing to return. We would,
in the province of Nahavand in Iran, create a room and architecture that through its presence indicates equality and transparency. An architecture that would include and not exclude. An architecture which harmonizes with nature and the existing buildings around it. A house bearing a message.
We want to experiment with this idea and create an actual place where you can return, stay, meet, discuss, and reflect. We want to immerse ourselves in the idea about how and in what ways an architecture can change, create meetings and discussions. Nahavand is an work-in-progress project. What is presented in this exhibition is the first strike in a longer process. This process continues to evolve
and grow in scope. The photographs in this exhibition room show Raha’s two-week-long research trip to the region as well as Sirous’ three-dimensional architecturemodels and 3D renderings, an on-going sketching for the final building. The handwritten texts on models are a continuation of Raha’s earlier diaryworks connected with the Nahavand project.

If, it isn't too dark, 2014

Go for a walk, if it is not too dark. Get some fresh air, try to smile. Say something kind.
Hafez
I have faith in equity, and I trust in a world without violence.
In this Project I have symbolized and used my body as a function against violence and war.
The Body hangs intermingled, in conversation not only with the viewer, but with each other in a constant reminder of the cause and effects of violence.
